# Speaking Coach vs Final Round AI: Practice Partner or Copilot?

They answer different questions. Final Round AI, as of October 2026, is built around a live copilot that listens to your real interview and privately shows suggested answers; it also has practice interviews. Speaking Coach is only for practice: an AI interviewer who reads your CV and follows up, before the day. If you want to get better at interviews, practice. If you're considering a copilot, read the risks first.

## Two different jobs

We make Speaking Coach, so this page has an obvious bias. We've kept Final Round AI's description to what its own site says, as of October 2026.

**Final Round AI** describes several features. The headline one is the **Live Interview CoPilot**: a desktop app for Mac and Windows that listens to your interview on Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex, HackerRank or CoderPad and "delivers real-time answers in a private window only you can see." **Stealth Mode**, on by default, keeps its windows out of screen shares and recordings. **Screen Help** reads on-screen coding or design problems and shows full solutions. It also offers **practice interviews** in eight scenario types and automatic debriefs.

**Speaking Coach** does one of those things: practice. On iPhone or Android, an AI voice interviewer reads your CV, the job post or your notes, asks about your real experience and follows up on what you said. It is never present in a real interview.

## The risks of using a copilot in a real interview

This is the part to think through before you pay for live help.

- **It may break the rules you agreed to.** Interviews, and especially coding assessments, often state that outside help is not allowed. Hidden help that's discovered can end your candidacy or a job offer.
- **Reading splits your attention.** Answering while reading a suggestion makes your eyes move, your pace uneven and your pauses odd. Interviewers notice when an answer sounds read.
- **Follow-ups expose it.** "Why did you pick that approach?" or "What would you change?" asks about *your* thinking. A suggested answer doesn't help you defend it.
- **The job comes after the interview.** If you got through on prompted answers, the first weeks of work will test the same skills, with no copilot.
- **Stealth isn't the point.** The fact that a tool needs to hide from screen sharing tells you how an interviewer would likely see it.

None of this applies to practice. Every rule-abiding way to get better runs through rehearsal.

## When each is the honest fit

**Final Round AI's practice mode** is a reasonable choice if you're a software candidate who wants coding and system design scenarios on a desktop and you're comfortable with a monthly subscription.

**Speaking Coach** fits if:

- you want to rehearse answers about your *real* experience until they come easily;
- you get nervous and want to choose the pressure (Gentle, Realistic or Tough), pause with "I need a moment", or get a starting sentence with "Help me";
- you want to see what to fix (pace, fillers, freezes) and retry the exact moment that went wrong for 90 seconds;
- you're interviewing in a language other than English.

For coding practice specifically, a peer or human mock beats both. See the [Final Round AI alternatives](/speaking-coach/compare/final-round-ai-alternatives/) for options.

## What to do instead of a copilot on the day

The fear behind copilots is usually "my mind will go blank." Prepare for that directly:

1. **Have three stories ready** that you can bend to most behavioral questions: a success, a conflict, a mistake.
2. **Practice saying "Let me think about that for a second."** A two-second pause sounds composed. Our guide on [answering a question you don't know](/speaking-coach/guides/answer-question-you-dont-know/) has more lines.
3. **Rehearse the final round** out loud with follow-ups; see [what to expect in a final round](/speaking-coach/interviews/final-round-interview/).
4. **Calm your body the morning of**, not just your notes. Our guide to [calming interview nerves](/speaking-coach/guides/calm-nerves-before-interview/) covers the night before and the morning.

## Questions people ask

### Is Final Round AI cheating?

It depends on what the employer allows. Using it to practice is not. Using hidden live help in an interview that forbids outside assistance breaks those rules. Read the instructions you were sent; coding assessments in particular often spell this out.

### Can interviewers detect AI copilots?

Final Round AI says its Stealth Mode hides its windows from screen shares. But interviewers judge more than the screen: reading pauses, eye movement and weak answers to follow-ups can all give it away.

### Does Speaking Coach help during a live interview?

No. Speaking Coach is only for practice before the conversation. It has no live or hidden mode.

### Does Final Round AI have a free plan?

As of October 2026, its free plan covers goals, job post parsing and prep checklists. Live sessions need Pro, listed from $25 a month, and the pricing page says there is no free trial.

### Which is better for coding interviews?

Final Round AI includes coding and system design scenarios; Speaking Coach does not. For coding, a peer or human mock interview is the best practice either way.
