# Speaking Coach vs Google Interview Warmup: Which Should You Use?

Google Interview Warmup was a free, low-pressure way to answer set questions and see your transcript with insights, and if you can still reach it and it covers your field, it's a fine first step. Move on when you need follow-up questions, questions about your own CV, or measured pace and filler feedback; that's what Speaking Coach adds. As of October 2026, Warmup's old address redirects to a Google interview tips article.

## What each one is

**Google Interview Warmup**, as Google's launch post described it, let you answer interview questions out loud and see them transcribed in real time. Question sets matched Google Career Certificate fields such as data analytics, IT support, project management and UX design, plus general questions. Insights highlighted job-related terms, your most-used words and talking points such as experience, skills and goals. It didn't grade you, and you could retry as often as you liked. It was free.

When we checked in October 2026, grow.google/interview-warmup redirected to a Grow with Google article, "How to Prepare for an Interview", which suggests Gemini Live for AI practice and doesn't mention Warmup.

**Speaking Coach** is an app we make, for iPhone and Android: an AI voice interviewer reads your CV, the job post or your notes, asks about your real experience, and follows up on what you said. There's also a free Speaking Coach app inside ChatGPT that reviews a recording in English.

## When Warmup was the right start

- You'd never practiced out loud and wanted zero pressure.
- Your field matched one of its question sets.
- You wanted to see your words on screen and spot repeated ones.
- You had no budget.

If you can still reach Warmup and those apply, use it first. Being comfortable hearing yourself answer is the foundation.

## When to move on

Move on when any of these is true:

1. **Real interviews dig deeper than your practice.** The first question was fine; the follow-up ("What did *you* do?") is where you stalled. Warmup didn't ask follow-ups.
2. **Your role wasn't covered**, or the questions were too generic for a specific job. An interviewer who reads the job post asks about what that job needs.
3. **Someone said you rush or say "um" a lot.** Warmup flagged repeated words, not pace in words per minute or filler counts.
4. **You need questions about your CV.** "Walk me through your resume" and "Tell me about this gap" are about *your* history. See [walk me through your resume](/speaking-coach/interview-questions/walk-me-through-your-resume/).
5. **You want to practice in another language.** Speaking Coach works in 20.

## Where Warmup is honestly better

- **It was free with no daily cap described.** Speaking Coach's phone app is a subscription, and its free ChatGPT version allows two reviews a day.
- **Zero pressure.** For a very anxious beginner, no follow-ups and no grading can be the right first step.
- **Google's field-specific question sets** were written by industry experts for certificate learners.

## Free ways to get similar value now

- **Gemini Live**, which Google's tips page now suggests for interview practice; tell it your role and to ask one follow-up per answer.
- **Our [questions by role](/speaking-coach/tools/interview-questions-by-role/) finder**, then answer out loud with the free [interview answer review](/speaking-coach/tools/interview-answer-review/), which shows pace, fillers and pauses in your browser.
- **Speaking Coach in ChatGPT**, for a free measured review of your best answer, in English.

## Questions people ask

### Is Google Interview Warmup free?

### Does Interview Warmup ask follow-up questions?

Google's launch post and coverage describe set questions with transcripts and insights, not follow-ups. Speaking Coach's interviewer follows up on what you said.

### What replaced Interview Warmup?

Google's current interview tips page suggests Gemini Live for AI interview practice. It doesn't call it a replacement, and it works differently: a general voice assistant you set up yourself.
