Use Speaking Coach in ChatGPT: free voice review of your speaking
Open ChatGPT, type "@Speaking Coach" (or find it under Apps), then record or upload yourself speaking. You get your measured pace, filler words and pauses, feedback that quotes your own words, and one change to try, then you can try again and compare. It is free, works in English only, and allows two reviews per network connection per day.
What the ChatGPT app does
Speaking Coach in ChatGPT is a voice review. You speak; it listens to your recording and tells you how it sounded and what to change. It reviews your own voice: what it measures comes from your recording, not from text you type.
Each review gives you:
- Your pace in words per minute.
- Your filler words, such as "um", "like" and "you know".
- Your pauses, including the long ones.
- Feedback that quotes your spoken words, so you can see exactly which sentence to fix.
- One change to try. Then you can try again and compare the second attempt with the first.
It is free. It doesn't rate your accent, pronunciation or personality, and it makes no medical assessment.
How to use it, step by step
- Open ChatGPT and type @Speaking Coach, or find Speaking Coach under Apps.
- Say what you are practicing in one line, for example the interview question or the speech.
- Optionally add a document as background: a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, text or Markdown file. Only its text is used, so a CV, a job post or your speech notes all work.
- Record or upload your voice. Answer the question or give the part of the speech you are working on. A minute or two is enough to see a pattern.
- Read the review. Start with the quoted line and the one change to try.
- Try again with that one change and compare the second attempt. Change one thing at a time; fixing everything at once usually fixes nothing.

The limits
| Limit | What it means |
|---|---|
| English only | Record in English. For other languages, use the phone app, which works in 20. |
| Two reviews per network connection per day | People on the same Wi-Fi or connection may share the two. Plan which answers matter most. |
| Shared capacity | The free reviews draw on capacity shared by everyone, so a review can be unavailable at busy times. |
| One optional document, text only | Images, charts and slide design are not read. |
| Your recording, not a conversation | It reviews what you recorded. For a partner who asks follow-up questions, use the phone app. |
Because you only get two a day, use the first on your weakest answer and the second on your retry. For extra rounds of counting on your own, the free speech review on this site measures pace, fillers and pauses in your browser, without AI feedback.
How it differs from the phone app
| Free in ChatGPT | Speaking Coach app (iPhone and Android) | |
|---|---|---|
| What you do | Record or upload your own voice | Practice out loud with an AI voice partner who plays the other side and follows up on what you said |
| Situations | Anything you record | 23 built-in scenes, such as Tell me about yourself, Ask for a raise and First date, or any situation you describe |
| Feedback | Pace, fillers, pauses, quoted feedback, one change to try | Pace, fillers, long pauses or freezes, how quickly you started, what to keep, and "You said / Try" tips |
| Retry | Try again and compare | Retry this moment: 90 seconds on the same moment, then see what changed |
| Documents | One optional file, text only | Your CV, job post or notes for mock interviews; slides as a PDF for presentations |
| Languages | English | 20 |
| Cost | Free, two reviews per network connection per day | Subscription; see the App Store or Google Play for the price in your country |
The ChatGPT app is the quick check: did that answer sound the way you meant it to? The phone app is for practicing the whole conversation, with pressure levels from Gentle to Tough, and a partner who asks the next question. The how we review page explains what the measures mean and where they fall short.
