Speaking Coach vs Bodyswaps: Which Soft Skills Practice Tool?

If your school, college or employer already gives you Bodyswaps, use it: as of October 2026 it offers soft-skills roleplays on desktop, browser, mobile or VR, chosen and assessed by your educators, and individual plans are not open yet. Add Speaking Coach (our app) if you want to practice on your own: interviews built from your CV and job post, small talk and hard conversations, in 20 languages, on your phone.

Who we are, and what we checked

We make Speaking Coach. We read Bodyswaps' home page, pricing pages and App Store page in October 2026, and our facts about it come only from those pages.

The main difference is who buys it. Bodyswaps is sold to organizations: universities, colleges, career-readiness programs, hospitals and companies. They choose the scenarios, set the assessment criteria and roll it out to learners. Speaking Coach is bought by one person for themselves.

Your school already provides Bodyswaps: what now?

Use it first. It's free to you, your educators may have built scenarios for your course, and some programs track completion. Then fill the gaps.

  1. Do the roleplays your course assigns. If your educators set assessment criteria, that's what you're being measured on.
  2. Note which situations it doesn't cover for you. Typical gaps: an interview for one specific job, a language your course doesn't offer, or everyday conversations outside the curriculum.
  3. Practice those on your own. This is where a personal app helps: paste the actual job post, add your CV, and the interviewer asks about your placement or project. Our campus placement interview guide lists what to expect.
  4. Keep your access in mind. Organization licenses often end when you leave the course or job. A personal app goes with you.

Where Bodyswaps is stronger

  • Immersion. VR simulations put you in a room with a virtual person, which some learners find closer to the real thing than a phone.
  • Educator control. Instructors can build roleplays for a specific module, such as a clinical conversation for nursing students, and assess everyone the same way.
  • Accessibility and inclusion. Its site lists WCAG 2.2 AA alignment and difficulty levels for SEND and ESOL learners.
  • Healthcare and sector scenarios. Its examples include breaking bad news to a patient and handling a guest complaint.

Where Speaking Coach is stronger

  • You can get it today, on your own. As of October 2026, Bodyswaps' individual offering wasn't open yet.
  • It practices your specific event. Your CV, your job post, your slides.
  • It covers life outside the course. Small talk at a career fair, meeting someone new, a first date, saying no to a flatmate, asking for a raise.
  • More languages. 20, including Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Turkish, Indonesian, Filipino and Vietnamese.
  • Daily habit. A 30-second daily prompt and a streak, built for a few minutes a day.

What it doesn't have: VR, educator dashboards, or assessment that your school can see.
