Speaking Coach vs VirtualSpeech: Which Is Better for Practice?

VirtualSpeech suits structured soft-skills training on a laptop or VR headset, usually bought by an employer, university or healthcare organization; as of October 2026 individuals can also subscribe for $45 a month or $399 a year. Speaking Coach (our app) suits one person who wants quick spoken practice on their phone before a specific interview, talk or conversation, in 20 languages. Choose by where you'll practice, on what device, and who is paying.

Who we are, and what we checked

We make Speaking Coach. We read VirtualSpeech's home, pricing and courses pages in October 2026, and our facts about it come only from those pages.

VirtualSpeech is a training platform: courses, roleplays, presentation practice and coaching, with admin reporting for organizations. Speaking Coach is a personal practice app: you open it on your phone, pick a situation, and talk to a partner for a few minutes. They overlap in one place, AI roleplay, and differ in almost everything around it.

Choose by setting

  • Your company or university is rolling out training. VirtualSpeech is built for that: assigned courses, custom scenarios, reporting on who practiced what. Speaking Coach has no admin tools.
  • You're preparing on your own for one event. Speaking Coach is quicker to start: add the job post or your slides and begin talking.
  • You practice between other things. A phone app fits a commute or a lunch break. VirtualSpeech's pricing page says "Everything runs in a browser on a laptop or tablet."

Choose by device

  • You want immersive presentation practice in VR. VirtualSpeech supports headsets; standing in front of a virtual conference audience is something Speaking Coach doesn't offer.
  • You only have a phone. Speaking Coach. We didn't see a phone app for VirtualSpeech's learners on the pages we read, apart from a VR app download.
  • You present slides. Both can help. VirtualSpeech has a virtual audience from a 1:1 pitch to a conference stage. Speaking Coach lets you swipe through your PDF as you speak, then answer the questions your audience would ask.

Choose by budget

  • Your employer pays. Use what they provide. If it's VirtualSpeech, you get courses and roleplays at no cost to you.
  • You pay yourself. Compare VirtualSpeech's $45 a month (October 2026) with Speaking Coach's price in your app store, and with what you'll actually use. A course library is worth more if you'll work through it; daily short reps are worth more if your event is soon.
  • You want to spend nothing. Our free browser tools, like the pace checker and free speech review, measure pace and filler words without an account. They aren't AI feedback, but they're a start.

Where each is stronger

VirtualSpeech is stronger for breadth of structured content, organization-wide rollout, custom scenarios built around a company's own products, and VR presentation practice.

Speaking Coach is stronger for quick spoken reps on a phone, interviews built from your own CV and job post, everyday conversations such as small talk or asking for a raise, and a daily 30-second prompt that keeps the habit going. If you blank mid-answer, "Help me" gives you a sentence to start from.

Questions people ask

Can individuals buy VirtualSpeech?

Yes. As of October 2026 its pricing page says individuals can subscribe directly for $45 a month or $399 a year, with the full content library, all practice types and AI feedback.

Do I need a VR headset for VirtualSpeech?

No. Its site says it runs in the browser, with VR as an option.

Does VirtualSpeech give certificates?

We didn't see certificates for learners on its home, pricing or courses pages in October 2026. Check with VirtualSpeech if you need one.

Is Speaking Coach available for teams?

Speaking Coach is a personal subscription on the App Store and Google Play. It doesn't include admin tools for assigning or tracking other people's practice.

Which is better for job interview practice?

VirtualSpeech has a "Job Interview Preparation" course and roleplays. Speaking Coach builds the interview from your own CV and the job post and follows up on your answers. If you have an interview this week, the second is usually faster.
