Speaking Coach vs Vocal Image: Which Improves How You Speak?
Choose Vocal Image if the problem is your voice itself: as of October 2026 it offers voice analysis, warm-ups, breathing, articulation drills, intonation practice and accent work. Choose Speaking Coach (our app) if the problem shows up in conversation: you ramble when asked a question, freeze when someone pushes back, or can't keep small talk going. Its partner plays the other side and gives feedback on what you said. It never rates your accent.
Who we are, and what we checked
We make Speaking Coach. Note that Vocal Image's App Store name also includes the words "Speaking Coach"; they are a different company. We read Vocal Image's home page and App Store page in October 2026, and our facts about it come only from those.
Both apps want you to speak better, but they start from different ends. Vocal Image starts with the instrument: pitch, clarity, pace, breathing, articulation, intonation and accent. Speaking Coach starts with the situation: an interviewer, a manager, a stranger at a party, and what you say back to them.

| "My voice shakes when I'm nervous" | Breath and nerves | Vocal Image: guided breathing; see also our guide on voice shaking |
| "I want to reduce my accent" | Pronunciation | Vocal Image: its listing includes accent reduction and English pronunciation. Speaking Coach never rates accents |
| "I ramble when someone asks me a question" | No structure under pressure | Speaking Coach: answer questions, see where you lost the point |
| "I go blank when an interviewer follows up" | Not practiced live | Speaking Coach: an interviewer that reads your CV and follows up |

| "I say um and like constantly" | Habit plus nerves | Either: both report filler words |
| "I talk too fast" | Pace | Either: Speaking Coach measures words per minute |
| "I can't say no or ask for a raise" | Hard conversation | Speaking Coach: "Say no", "Ask for a raise" scenes with pushback |
What Vocal Image offers (October 2026)
Its App Store page calls it "an AI communication and soft skills coach". The listing and site describe:
- Voice training with instant voice analysis and warm-ups.
- Articulation Trainer: tongue twisters and diction drills with Clarity and Speed scores.
- Intonation: matching pitch curves in real time.
- Breathing and calm exercises.
- Daily plans with short coach videos, mini podcasts, and a library including accent reduction and English pronunciation.
- AI roleplay: "Practice a real conversation with an AI that plays the other person", such as interviews and salary talks, with feedback on filler words and phrasing.
- Free tests such as a voice test and an accent test.
The App Store page lists 10 languages and several subscription options in the US, from a $7.99 weekly plan to annual plans between $39.99 and $129.99. Which one you see may vary. It runs on iOS, Android and the web, per its site.
So Vocal Image is not only voice drills; it has conversation roleplay too. Its centre of gravity, though, is the voice.
What Speaking Coach offers
A voice partner in 23 built-in scenes, from "Tell me about yourself" to "Deliver bad news" and "First date", or any situation you describe. You add your CV and the job post for interviews, or slides for a presentation. You choose Gentle, Realistic or Tough. Afterwards: pace in words per minute, filler words, long pauses, how quickly you started, and tips that quote what you said. Then Retry this moment for 90 seconds. It works in 20 languages and never rates your accent or personality.
What it doesn't have: vocal exercises, breathing drills, pitch training or accent work. If the sound of your voice is the issue, it isn't the right tool.
Which to choose
- Your voice works, but conversations go wrong: Speaking Coach.
- Your voice is the problem: Vocal Image, or free techniques from our guides on sounding less monotone and projecting your voice.
- You want accent training: Vocal Image. We deliberately don't do it.
- Not sure: record yourself answering "Tell me about yourself" for one minute and listen back. If you wince at how it sounds, start with voice training. If you wince at what you said, start with conversation practice.
