Best Speaking Practice Apps for Non-Native Speakers in 2026

If you already know the language but freeze when you speak it, match the app to the problem. For pronunciation scores, ELSA Speak; for relaxed everyday conversation, Praktika, Speak or a human tutor on Cambly; for interviews and meetings, Speaking Coach, which works in 20 languages and never rates your accent. Most delivery apps, like Orai, are English only.

First, name the problem

Non-native speakers who freeze at work usually have one of three problems, and each needs a different app:

  • "People ask me to repeat myself." That's pronunciation or clarity. A pronunciation app helps.
  • "I can write it but I can't say it fast enough." That's speaking fluency. You need a lot of low-stakes conversation.
  • "I'm fine with friends but blank in meetings and interviews." That's pressure, not language. You need practice in that exact situation, with someone pushing back.

Many people assume the first problem when they really have the third. If colleagues understand you in the kitchen but you stall when your manager asks "So what's the plan?", an accent course won't fix it.

We make Speaking Coach, which is one of the apps below. We checked the other apps' own sites or App Store pages in October 2026 and report only what we saw.

Apps by what you need

For pronunciation: ELSA Speak

ELSA's App Store listing describes instant, detailed feedback on what you say, a choice of American, British or Australian accent, roleplays and coaches for interviews, sales and presentations, and IELTS and TOEFL prep with Premium. It lists a monthly plan at $19.99 and several yearly plans, with a 7-day trial. Best for: people who are genuinely hard to understand on certain sounds, or who need an exam score. If your accent is clear and you simply sound different from a native speaker, you may not need this at all. Our guide to speaking clearly with an accent explains the difference.

For everyday conversation: Praktika, Speak, Duolingo Max or a human tutor

These help with fluency: lots of talking where mistakes are cheap.

  • Praktika. Its listing describes "lifelike AI tutors who listen, respond, and correct you", with different accents, 1,000+ lessons including career and job interview goals, and an option to upload your resume to rehearse interview answers.
  • Speak. An AI tutor you hold back-and-forth conversations with, with real-time feedback on how natural you sound. Teaches English to speakers of several languages, and six languages to English speakers.
  • Duolingo Max. Duolingo's launch post describes Video Call with a character called Lily and Roleplay scenarios, for English speakers learning Spanish, French, German, Italian or Portuguese (Video Call also for Japanese, Korean and Chinese). It's aimed at learners, not people who already speak the language well.
  • Cambly. Real tutors who are native English speakers, including a professional development track. Its site listed $17 a month for small groups and $39 a month for private lessons, with discounts shown.

A human tutor is still the best choice if you want someone to explain why a phrase sounds odd.

For work and interviews: Speaking Coach or Huru

Here you need the actual pressure: a question you didn't expect, a follow-up, someone waiting for your answer.

Speaking Coach (ours) plays the other side, an interviewer who reads your CV, a manager asking for an update, a stranger at a networking event, and follows up on what you said. Afterwards you see your pace, filler words and long pauses, with tips that quote your own sentences, then retry that moment. The screens, the voice partner and the feedback all work in 20 languages, and it never rates your accent or personality. It's a subscription.

Huru is a free AI interviewer with follow-up questions, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and French.

For languages other than English

Most speaking-skills apps are English only: Orai's listing shows English, and PowerPoint Speaker Coach works only in English. If you need to interview in German or present in Japanese, your choice narrows to language-learning apps (Praktika, Speak, Duolingo) for fluency, Huru for interviews in its five languages, and Speaking Coach in its 20.

A weekly plan that works

  1. Twice a week, 10 minutes: fluency practice in a conversation app or with a tutor. Don't stop for every mistake.
  2. Once a week: one practice session of a real work situation: your next meeting update, an interview question, a client call.
  3. Before anything important: say your first two sentences out loud five times. Most freezes happen at the start.
  4. Every two weeks: record yourself for one minute and check your pace with the free pace checker. Nervous non-native speakers often rush, which hurts clarity more than accent does.

Questions people ask

Do I need to reduce my accent to do well at work?

Usually not. What matters is being understood easily. If people rarely ask you to repeat yourself, work on pace and structure instead.

Which app is best for business English speaking?

For pressure situations like meetings, presentations and interviews, choose an app that plays the other person, such as Speaking Coach or Huru. For general business vocabulary, a tutor on Cambly or a course in Speak or Praktika suits better.

Is there an app that doesn't judge my accent?

Yes. Speaking Coach never rates your accent or personality, and its free voice review in ChatGPT (English only) doesn't assess accent or pronunciation either.

Can I practice job interviews in Spanish or Hindi?

Speaking Coach works in both, among its 20 languages. Huru supports Spanish but not Hindi, according to its site.

How long until I stop freezing?

There's no fixed number. Most people notice a difference once they've practiced the specific situation several times out loud, rather than only reading about it.
