Huru Alternatives: Which AI Job Interview App Should You Try?

Huru is free and, as of October 2026, already has a live AI interviewer that follows up, so switch only for a specific reason. For more languages or a native Android app, try Speaking Coach (our app, 20 languages, voice only). For lessons, try Big Interview. For human feedback, try Aced peer mocks (free credits) or interviewing.io (paid). For a desktop app, Final Round AI has a spoken practice mode.

First, check whether you need to switch

We make Speaking Coach, one of the apps below, so read our picks with that in mind. Every competitor fact here comes from that company's own site or App Store page, checked in October 2026.

Huru is a strong free tool. As of October 2026, its site and App Store page say:

  • It is free for job seekers, with "no subscription, no paywall, no trial".
  • It has a live AI interviewer that "listens to what you say, asks follow-up questions and adapts", with Supportive, Standard or Demanding pressure and 5 to 20 minute sessions.
  • You can answer on camera or audio only. Camera answers get feedback on eye contact, posture, expressions, energy, gestures, and framing and lighting.
  • It covers 242+ roles, a library of 50,000+ questions, and writes questions from a pasted job post.
  • It works in English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, on the web and an iOS app; the site points Android users to the web app.

So two common reasons to leave no longer apply. If you dislike being filmed, switch Huru to audio. If you want follow-ups, use its live interviewer. The real reasons to look elsewhere are narrower, and the right alternative depends on which one is yours.

The options in more detail

Speaking Coach (our app)

Voice only, on iPhone and Android. You add your CV, the job post or notes; the interviewer asks about your real experience and follows up on what you said. Afterwards you see your pace in words per minute, filler words, long pauses, and "You said … / Try …" tips, then Retry this moment for 90 seconds on the question that went wrong. It never rates your accent or personality, and it has no camera feedback at all. Choose it for one of the 15 languages Huru doesn't list (Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Polish and more), or to practice small talk and hard conversations as well as interviews. It costs money where Huru doesn't.

Big Interview

Choose it if you want to be taught. As of October 2026 it lists 170 video lessons in 12 categories, an answer builder, an interview simulator and AI feedback, sold from $39 a month or $299 lifetime. Many universities license it, so check your career center first.

Aced peer mock interviews

Aced is the new name of Exponent. Its practice page says you are matched with a peer preparing for similar interviews, and each of you interviews the other for about 30 minutes over a live video call; audio only is allowed. Free users get monthly credits. It's best for product, data and engineering roles, and it doesn't work on mobile.

interviewing.io

For software roles where calibration matters. Its FAQ says interviews are anonymous, voice with no video, start at $179, and come with a full refund if you're unhappy. Its AI Interviewer for coding and system design is free.

Final Round AI Practice Interview

A spoken mock inside the Final Round AI desktop app for macOS and Windows, with scenarios from behavioral to system design and salary negotiation. Its page says sessions need an active plan. Note that its main product is a live interview copilot; we compare that approach on the Final Round AI alternatives page.

Camera or voice: which practice do you need?

Match the practice to the interview you'll actually have.

  • One-way recorded video interview (you answer on-screen prompts with no one live): practice on camera. Huru's video mode is a good fit here, and so is our guide to the one-way video interview.
  • Phone screen or audio-first round: voice-only practice is closer to the real thing; see phone interview tips.
  • Live video interview with a person: what slows people down is usually the follow-up question, not their framing. Practice with a partner who pushes back, then do one run on camera to check lighting and eye line.

Questions people ask

Is Huru really free?

As of October 2026, its site lists job-seeker use at $0 with no subscription, and every job-seeker feature included. It sells an enterprise plan to universities and large organizations.

Can I use Huru without the camera?

Yes. Its site says you can answer one question at a time on camera or with audio, and its live interviewer offers video or audio.

What is the best Huru alternative for languages other than English?

Huru lists five languages. Speaking Coach works in 20, including Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Indonesian and Vietnamese, with the voice partner and feedback in that language.

Is there a Huru app for Android?

As of October 2026, Huru's site says Android users can use its web app; it doesn't list a native Android app. Speaking Coach has native iPhone and Android apps.

Should I pay for human mock interviews instead?

For most roles, free or AI practice covers the basics. One paid human mock near the end is worth it for senior or technical roles, where an experienced interviewer can tell you whether your level comes across.
